The best sport for my bike?

I'm looking to buy a used sports bike in the spring, Im filing for a license now same. I'm trying to figure out the best bike for me … I am a student of 3rd year of college and plan to use the bicycle to get around and have fun. I have April 1 350z that I love too, but I always wanted a bike. I grew up on dirtbikes (50,65,85,125) motocross and ran for about 7 years until he was 16. I think a Ninja 500R (2005-2006 or so) is probably the best bang for my money. Do not need anything super fast in all, seems like the Ninja 500R perfect bike. However, does anyone have any other recommendations? I do not want to pay more than 3 or less large. As I said, I've been on bikes all my life … tracks, trails, roads, etc.
