What is the easiest way to get into film editing?

I love making movies and I'm making of action sports clips and the like. I also made my own Lord of the Rings film in my school style media high course of study, which won three awards for it. I've looked at a film school in New Zealand (home) and very expensive .. I am young and want to jump on a student loan large outward … i made the first step this year was to get a job at a motorcycle shop so you can continue racing motocross, but also have the enough money to buy my own camera and make short films etc. I basically want to know if I should go to film school or do it myself, I'm afraid, no work for me when I leave school.
